For this post, I cam going to compare lighting in Maya and in Unity. In Maya, at first glance, there may seem to be little options to play around with the lighting:

However, it has more options to actually play with for each lights.

Not to mention, there is also the render settings that allows me to add more for the lighting.

Moving on to Unity, there is lesser options as compared to Maya.

However, it does have different options from Maya. Maya and Unity have the same lights for one to use (Directional light, spot light, area light and point light) However, Maya has more lights. In addition to the listed lights, Maya has ambient light. Lights in Unity only allows a maximum intensity of 8, whereas Maya allows any number that you put in. Area lights in Unity do not allow you to actually see the size of it. It does show you the range it affects in terms of values. Area Lights in Maya does not show you the range in values but it does show the size. Changing the size of area lights in Maya is the same as changing the range in Unity. There are considerably more options in Maya for shadows as compared to Unity. Additionally, it is hard to imitate real life lighting in Unity as compared to Maya. However, I am barely a novice in Unity while I am quite used to Maya so I cannot really gauge fully. I can only compare on what I know both in Unity and Maya.
