For this post, I am going to go through how I designed the town people. This are some of the designs that I did:
I was told that in the past, people do not really have white clothings as it is expensive to maintain. Hence, I avoided white colour and instead, added other colours. I used bright colours because I wanted the characters to appear amiable and approachable for the player. I have kept their designs simple as the town that the characters are based in is not affluent and is rather average. Even their lifestyle in the town is simple and I wanted to show that in the simplicity of their design too. The females generally had long sleeves and long skirts but I did not keep the sleeves long for every single design. I gave them feminine and bright colours, not only to make them look friendly but also since they do not have to do much labour work, they will not be in contact with dirt as much as the guys. The males generally had long sleeves and long pants. However, just like the women designs, I did not keep the long sleeves for every single design. I gave the males relatively dark coloured clothes as I imagined them to be helping out in the labour work in the town and so a dark coloured design would be more suitable. In addition, based on my references, most of the clothes for the guys are dark coloured and by giving them dark coloured design, it made the characters look more masculine. Hairstyles for both genders are simple. For the females, I kept most of their hair tied up as it would be more comfortable and there would be more variety. For the males, I kept their hair short in general. I tried to design the characters in a way that their personality could be seen too.
